CAAN LAC and NNAAPC UNPFII Statements

Indigenous Advocacy at the 2025 UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues

From April 21–23, 2025, CAAN, NNAAPC, and the Latin American and Caribbean Coalition of Indigenous Peoples in Response to HIV/AIDS joined voices at the UNPFII to call for urgent action on three critical fronts:

  • UNDRIP Implementation: Advocating for Indigenous-led consultation, monitoring, and legal reform to realize the full promise of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

  • Health Equity & SDG 3.3: Urging robust, targeted funding—especially through the Global Fund—to combat HIV, TB, and malaria in Indigenous communities facing systemic health inequities.

  • Ending Gender-Based Violence: Highlighting the crisis of GBV against Indigenous women, girls, and gender-diverse people, and demanding UN-led action centered on justice, health, and Indigenous leadership.
