On June 14th and 15th, 2016, CAAN hosted a two-day Community Readiness Model (CRM) National Training of Trainers workshop at the Hotel OMNI Mont-Royal in Montreal.  The workshop brought together participants and organizations from Ontario and Quebec.

Organizations who took part in the training included: Montreal Native Women’s Shelter, Native Friendship Centre of Montreal, Quebec Native Women, AIDS Community Care Montreal, First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health & Social Services Commission, Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto, AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area, and 2 Spirited Peoples of the 1st Nations.

Workshop participants were given the opportunity to gain an understanding of what the CRM is, what “Readiness” means, why they should use the model, and learn the step by step process that provides communities and organizations with their stages of readiness for HIV/AIDS prevention or intervention.

Participants shared where they are at, where do they want to be and how they want to get there in terms of their organizations HIV/AIDS community planning.

The training allowed everyone to explore and identify the stages and dimensions of readiness and the key factors that influence their community’s preparedness to take action on an issue.

Each training participant were provided with the tools they need to use in conducting a Community Readiness Assessment and information on how to use the Assessment to develop prevention/intervention strategies/action plans including goals and general strategies appropriate for their stage of readiness.

Finally, participants were able to create and develop an “Action Plan” and/or “Action Strategies” and identify specific action steps in reaching their strategy.

CAAN continues to work, provide support and follow up with the training participants and organizations to help complete action plans and/or strategies.
