On July 13th and 14th, 2015, CAAN sponsored a two-day Community Readiness Model (CRM) National Train-The-Trainer session at the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown Hotel. The training session was conducted by staff from CAAN and brought together participants and organizations from British Columbia, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
The purpose of the training session was to increase the participants understanding of what the CRM is, what does “Readiness” mean and why use the model for HIV/AIDS, Sexual Transmission and Blood Borne Infections intervention and prevention.
There were some great discussions on the process for using the CRM including going through a step-by-step guide on how to complete and conduct a Community Readiness Assessment.
The training opportunity allowed participants to explore and identify the stages and dimensions of readiness and key factors that influence their community’s preparedness to take action on an issue.
Also, participants were provided with the tools they need to use in conducting a Community Readiness Assessment and information was provided on how to use the Assessment to develop prevention/intervention strategies including goals and general strategies appropriate for each stage of readiness.
Finally participants were given the opportunity to create an “Action Plan” or
“Action Strategies” and finding out ways the CRM is used.
CAAN will continue to work, provide support and follow up with the training participants and organizations to help complete action plans and/or strategies.
