Indigenous quantitative Research Analyst

CAAN Communities, Alliances & Networks is looking to hire an Indigenous Quantitative Research Analyst who will develop a robust Research Data Management Framework, informed by Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Doing, and principles of Indigenous data sovereignty.

CAAN is a national, Indigenous organization who is leading the response to HIV and AIDS through empowerment, education and community. Our organization is culturally grounded and operates through Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Doing (IWKD).

The Indigenous Quantitative Research Analyst will work closely with CAAN’s Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infections (STBBI) Coordinator and the Indigenous Data Coordinator. Procedures and processes will be developed for Indigenous data management, analysis, knowledge mobilization and security. A key outcome will be CAAN’s own protocol(s) for data stewardship as well as plans to facilitate access to said data sets outside the organization.

The successful candidate for this position will:

• Understand Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Doing;

• Install and maintain the performance of database servers;

• Develop processes for optimizing database security;

• Set and maintain database standards;

• Manage database access;

• Performance tuning of database systems;

• Install, upgrade, and manage database applications;

• Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors;

• Recommend and implement emerging database technologies;

• Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards;

• Create automation for repeating database tasks;

• Create and deliver training to CAAN staff on Data Software such as Qualtrics, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access, SharePoint;

•Data analysis and data mining.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

•Strong command of SQL and SQL servertools;

• Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards;

• Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling;

• PowerShell and Unix shell scripting skills;

•Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS,SSRS;

•Strong mathematical and statisticalknowledge;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

•Impeccable attention to detail.

Education and Experience Requirements:

•Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. A combination of other credentials and experience may be considered.

•Three to five years of experience in database administration, information technology, database architecture, or a related field.

•Experience with Linux and Windows Server environments.

•Extensive experience with database technologies (MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL Oracle, MongoDB).

•Extensive experience with cloud services (AWS, Microsoft Azure).

Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s Degree with 4+ years relevant experience in data management and analysis.

•Experience with Indigenous research is an asset.

•Strong quantitative research/analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize and analyze significant amounts of data and information.

•Experience working with Community Research Associates is an asset.

•Possess a superior level of computer literacy, especially Microsoft 365 suite of applications, and web-based applications including search engines and tools.

•Ability to work independently and able to work on teams cross-functionally.

•Ability to organize, prioritize and follow through with important projects.

•Strong attention to detail.

•Exceptional written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences.

•Ability to problem-solve with a track record of producing results.

•Exceptional time management skills.

•Ability to present complex information in a simplified way to various audiences.
